What is Green Architecture | Sustainable Architecture

Green architecture is a design approach to architecture that diminishes the adverse impact of buildings on the environment and human health. The green design focuses on the idea of sustainable energy sources.

It emphasizes the conservation of energy, ecological conservation, and re-use of construction materials in the design of the built environment. It is also known as sustainable architecture which is a philosophy of designing and constructing projects using environmentally friendly approaches.

During the twentieth century, buildings depleted a lot of the earth’s resources such as energy, freshwater, and raw materials. That resulted in greenhouse gas emissions and the disposal of waste materials in landfills. As a result of this unpleasant surge of high-rise buildings and sprawl, some environmentalists in the US initiated the idea of green architecture. They moved to rural areas where they started living in geodesic domes and other tent-like shelters which had a very low impact on the earth.

Green architecture is a sustainable way of designing and constructing a green building keeping the environment in mind. A green architect incorporates eco-friendly architecture and ecological construction materials, building technology, and vernacular architecture. Naturally available resources such as daylight and natural air are considered important in the design process to create an energy-efficient structure.

A sustainable architect advises the client about the aspects of making a building green. The architect designs the project incorporating the client’s ideas as well as sustainable technology, materials, and passive architecture.

The designer uses various approaches to lessen the energy requirements and increase a building’s ability to bring about its energy in sustainable design architecture. Bioclimatic Architecture is a sustainable approach to designing buildings. It is a way of constructing energy-efficient buildings using green building materials and sustainable construction technology.

The geography of the site, the location of the building, and the orientation of the sun play a significant role in creating bioclimatic architecture.

Green architecture or sustainable architecture includes sustainable materials such as wood and stone as well as recycled materials. Solar panels and insulation on walls, floors, and roofs are among the essential components to make a building green.

The sustainable design promotes the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the occupants and society. It minimizes the negative impact of buildings on the environment by providing eco architecture and green efficient design for the ecosystem. The key goal of sustainability is climate-responsive architecture and energy efficiency throughout the life of a built structure.

Biophilic Architecture, an idea of designing and constructing buildings with a deep relationship with the natural atmosphere by using nature directly or indirectly, is an important concept in sustainability.

Architects, designers, and engineers from different countries around the world including developing countries like Pakistan, are looking forward to offering ecological architecture, green ideas, regenerative architecture, sustainable possibilities, and responsive architecture to the world so we can all live in a healthy green world.
